There were so many homeless coonhounds and bloodhounds in Colorado and no dedicated organization to help them. Basset Hound Rescue was getting calls about them, but didn't have any coonie-friends foster home. So my attempt to help "save the world one big hound at a time" is getting off the ground with babysteps. We all know these dogs are very hard to place because they require so much unique attention. A person either is a coonhound/bloodhound lover or is not. It takes a special person to tolerate and love a coonhound - but it's worth it as they are unconditional lovers in return - even when they have couch fluff in their mouths or your favorite shoe buried or your cat treed in the back yard.
Relinquishements:
We offer a compassionate and easy process when giving up your coonhound or bloodhound. We understand that there are things out of our control that can compel people to relinquish ownership of their dogs and we will work hard to find the best situation for you and your dog. The best scenario also includes patience on your part, if you can 'foster' the dog until a permanent placement can be found, that greatly increases the chance that the placement will work out and keep the dog out of foster care.
Fostering:
If you want a coonhound/bloodhound or think you do, fostering is always a great option to 'try' out the breed and see if they are for you. We are ALWAYS in need of foster homes, so if you can foster for a day, a weekend or a few months, please email us and let us know!
Adoption:
Our adoption process is fairly painless. We request an adoption application be filled out (can be sent in email) and we require a home visit be done and a meet-and-greet with potential dogs. We do also require a contract and adoption fee be signed/paid at time of delivery of the dog. We will take the dog back at any point in his/her lifetime if arrangements do not work out.
