Colorado Coonhound Rescue and Adoption Service is working to rehome homeless coonhounds and bloodhounds, educate the public on big hound ownership and work with the American Scent Hound Association on placements of dogs for Scent Tracking. Feel free to email for more information or if you know of a homeless hound and would like their information posted here. We hope to decrease the amount of coonhounds in shelters and work together to place them in great homes and family environments.

I am Charleston Marie. I am my mom's first coonie and webmistress of Colorado Coonhounds! See my story at the link provided on your left! I'm also on MySpace, so check me out at www.myspace.com/coongoon!
Coonhound Rescue is MORE than happy to advertise your coonie or bloodhound if you have to give them up, however, we HAVE NO OPEN FOSTER HOMES, NO INCOME STREAM and NO FACILITY. We are MORE than happy to work with any behavioral or management issues you have so that you can keep your dog. The state of the economy has strapped us as well. We've been requested lately to give out money so people can keep their animals, we cannot do that. Your understanding is appreciated.

~~LATEST NEWS AND EVENTS~~ ~~~ Locals are familiar with the story of little Jaryd Atadero. He vanished 8 years ago while hiking in the Colorado mountains with a youth group. 3.5 years later his clothing was found. He was not. If you are thinking "where were the tracking dogs and the search teams?" So are we! Visit www.heismissing.com and let's all support Allyn Atadero on his quest for legislative change and promotion of the scent tracking dogs and their talents. A successful future of solving missing people cases lies with the police and scent dogs WORKING TOGETHER to bring people home. It's up to all of us to show and gain the confidence of the public and make ourselves known. Our dogs can do it. Working quickly and swiftly, we can do it. Check out the review! http://ezinearticles.com/?MISSING-The-Jaryd-Atadero-Story-A-Must-Read!&id=853190 My Review in a nutshell: This is not a quick read, as the book looks upfront. It actually took me about 3 weeks to read. I got it in the mail and it sat there on my counter for a few days, I couldn't pick it up. I couldn't because I knew the impact it would have on me. I read a couple chapters here and there, and I read passages to my friends and family. I had to have time in between each section I read to process what I read. I cried, I got upset, I got angry. This book is powerful, heartwrenching and a MUST READ for everyone. We have to know, feel and understand what the Atadero's went though and we have to make changes. We have to educate hikers, we have to instill safety in our kids at a young age and most importantly we have to break through the politics and get our dogs out there and get those missing kids/people home within HOURS of going missing, not objects or parts of them weeks or years later. - Charleston ~~~ PLEASE visit http://www.merlinspetshop.com/ for all the latest in CUSTOM LEATHER leashes, collars and harnesses. This is a small business in Texas with a BIG heart!! They make very nice harnesses and stand behind their work 100%. I will be sporting a brand new custom blue leather harness at STORM, so check me out!!

~~**~~ NOTES OF INTEREST~~**~~ Animal testing is NOT OK! For a list of companies that DO and DO NOT test their products on animals, click here: http://www.caringconsumer.com/resources_companies.asp ADOPT SMART! When donating money to local Animal Rescues, please research them carefully. The Secretary of State for each state has available on their websites a searchable database of registered non-profit business entities. Also researching the rescues BEFORE getting a dog is a smart idea. We've run into many 'rescues' that are nothing more than animal collectors. People pay adoption fees and these fees are untraceable and unaccounted for. Ensure your money is going for the intended cause!
Ballad of a Tracking Dogby: Debra ChristianHis day starts out as a normal day. As the morning wears on, he wonders why. He hears the phone ring, He feels the excitement. Will he work today? The bags are packed and sitting on the floor. And as the morning wears on, he wonders why. He hears the phone ring, He feels the excitement. Will he work today? As he speeds down the highway on this sunny day, A lost little child needs comfort today. The harness, the lead, the scent, the speed. He hears the crying, He feels the need To save a child. He worked today. Copyright ©2008 Debra Christian
