Relinquishments
Every day we get calls and emails from people needing to give up their coonhound or bloodhound. With our limited resources, financial and physical, we cannot be a dumping ground for the problems that other acquire. Meaning, we cannot just take your dog and re-home him or her because you have a problem you don’t want to address.
We are happy to work with you on any problems your dog has and make life easier for you both!

Top Reasons for Relinquishment:

Can’t give the dog the time and attention he/she “needs”

We’re having a baby

We’re moving

Getting a divorce

We can’t afford

Here’s our response to the top reasons of relinquishment:

Can’t give the dog the time and attention he/she needs - We can evaluate how and why your dog is acting out and give you hint and tips for training and education for a positive experience in hound ownership.

We’re having a baby - Most of the Coonhound Rescue volunteers have children.  We are happy to work with you during this transitional time to introduce your new baby and your hound BEFORE the birth to create a seamless transition.

We’re moving - The state of the economy is forcing many to move to new states or into temporary living   situations.  There are options out there for all situations, we can provide the minor training needed to help your hound adapt from house/yard living to apartment living.

Getting a divorce - Middle ground is often a sore point in a divorce situation.  Dogs can feel the burden of divorce as much as children can.  An arrangement of shared custody is always better than uprooting your dog and taking them to a shelter or putting them in foster care.

We can’t afford - We can work with you to find low-cost spay/neuter clinics and health care. More and more clinics are offered in Colorado with the sole purpose of non-profit vet care.  We can   help you locate these resources and keep your pet.
